The day before the jacaranda shoot, I checked the light in New Farm Park and moved the shoot from 2pm to 3.30pm. That reel was one of three I made for Jian Cha Brisbane in October 2026, along with print files for three big cup props. Two of the reels went on @jiancha.au. The third went on my creator account, as a collab.
The Grape Yogurt Slushie and the Grape Tea Slushie w/ Cream Cheese, under the jacarandas in New Farm Park.
I scouted the park, directed the shoot and edited the reel.

How the jacaranda shoot was planned
Six decisions from the day before the shoot and the day itself.
Test the light first
The day before, I went to New Farm Park to see the light. Around 4pm the light was beautiful. The shoot was booked for 2pm, when the sun is much stronger, so we moved it to 3.30pm.
Spares, topping on the side
I asked for spare drinks as well as the ones going on camera, with the cream cheese packed separately so it could be poured on location.
Frame from the reel: the drink spilling over the rim.
Film what melts first
Slushies melt fastest. I got to the park early so I could film the product details as soon as the drinks arrived.
Stay on the product
I planned detail shots to stop people scrolling away: jacaranda petals on top, the cream cheese pour, a spoonful.
A real picnic, no script
I asked the team to set up a picnic their way. It was only for a shot or two, so I told them not to stress about it.
The footage picks the account
Before the shoot, this could have become a reel for @jiancha.au or a collab on my account. I decided after going through the footage. I’m not in any of it, so it went to @jiancha.au.
Frame from the reel: the drinks on a wooden tray, petals on top.
The whole shoot went to the team as well: 54 photos and 32 clips in a shared folder, for the shop to use.
Two more reels
A launch filmed in the shop, and a Halloween collab on my creator account.
Sparkling White Peach
A launch reel for the Sparkling White Peach Tea With Grape Jelly, C67 on the menu. Filmed in the shop on 15 Oct and delivered on 18 Oct.
The caption on @jiancha.au opens with the line I sent with the reel: “Yes, it’s the purple one!”
A Halloween reel for the Thai Milk Tea Cocoa, filmed at the shop on 23 Oct. It went up on my creator account, @waitwhatmj, as a collab with @jiancha.au.
Print files for three oversized cups, each a die-cut photo of a real hand holding one of the shop’s drinks. The photos were taken in the shop on 15 Oct.
Each prop is 560 mm tall on an A2 sheet, with a white border and a cut line for the print shop. Delivered on 18 Oct.
The three print files side by side, at the same scale.
On my own account
Earlier, in August
On 3 Aug 2026 I posted a review of the Grape Tea Slushie w/ Cream Cheese on my other account, @whereamimj. It wasn’t a commission. Jian Cha co-posted it from @jiancha.official and @jiancha.au.
